Better Call Saul Empty Better Call Saul

Fri 27 Dec 2013 - 12:32
The anticipated spin-off show to US cable TV series Breaking Bad has been given the green light and will centre around the show's cunning lawyer, Saul Goodman.
Rumours of a Breaking Bad spin-off show have been floating around for a few months, and now the show's network AMC and Sony Pictures have confirmed that Saul Goodman will get his own pilot show with a view to a series.
Given a working title of Better Call Saul, the programme will be based on Breaking Bad's "criminal" lawyer Saul Goodman, who aids chemistry teacher turned meth cook Walter White (Bryan Cranston) and his partner Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) in their endeavours.
Breaking Bad fans may be thankful for the news, but it will also mean more work for Goodman actor Bob Odenkirk, who told The Telegraph that the AMC show is "the golden goose and I’m just thankful I got a chance to be in it".
However, fans who are fearful of spoilers about Breaking Bad's grisly end need not be worried what Better Call Saul could imply for the show. Better Call Saul will start as a "one-hour prequel that will focus on the evolution of the popular Saul Goodman character before he ever became Walter White's lawyer", according to AMC. The episode will come from the same creative minds behind Breaking Bad: Vince Gilligan and writer-producer Peter Gould.
Deadline reports that the show also has "a series order pending the complication of Sony TV's deals with Gilligan, Ould and Odenkirk."
AMC, which is part of AMC Networks Inc, and Sony Corp's Sony Pictures Television did not say when production would start or when it was projected to air.
Breaking Bad, which concludes its five-season run this month, is a dark drug drama about a high school chemistry teacher who begins producing and selling methamphetamine to secure his family's financial future after he is diagnosed with terminal cancer.
The series' actors have won five Emmys, including three top TV drama actor accolades for Cranston and two best supporting actor awards for Aaron Paul, who plays White's former-student-turned-business-partner Jesse Pinkman.
Breaking Bad has been nominated for six Primetime Emmy Awards this year, including best drama series.
