A cab driver picking up a fare at an east side Portland hotel suffered a medical condition and drove into a ground floor room, seriously injuring a sleeping guest Thursday morning.
Both the driver, 52-year-old Terry Uding, and the guest, 40-year-old Jonathan Toubin of Manhattan, were taken to the hospital after 11 a.m. from the Jupiter Hotel at 800 East Burnside Street, according to Portland police.
At last report Toubin was in critical condition at Oregon Health and Science University. Uding was treated and released.
Toubin is a New York DJ who was scheduled to perform a show Thursday night at Branx, a venue on Southeast 2nd Avenue.
Portland fire said Toubin was pinned against the wall by the Radio Cab taxi, a Scion XB. It took a police officer and three maintenance workers to lift the cab off Toubin, Portland Fire & Rescue reports.
Emergency officials then were able to remove the van from the room and traffic division officers began their investigation.
The hotel is attached to the popular Doug Fir Lounge music venue and restaurant.
