Battlefield 4 & C.O.D. 9 Confirmed. Empty Battlefield 4 & C.O.D. 9 Confirmed.

Thu 10 Nov 2011 - 19:30
Seriously... What is it with sequels being effectively confirmed before the game's even out or before it's barely been released into the wild? With the next Assassin's Creed and Saints Row being pretty much confirmed, we can now rest safe in the knowledge that there will also be a Battlefield 4 in an unspecified year, and a new Call of Duty in 2012. No surprises there then.

"There is going to be a Battlefield 4", EA's Frank Gibeau confirmed during a keynote address at the University of California, which is hardly a revelation given that Battlefield 3 has become EA's fastest-selling game, managing to sell over 5 million copies.

"This feels like day one now," said Executive Producer, Patrick Bach. "It's exciting. The whole Frostbite 2 thing has opened up a big landscape ahead of us so we can do whatever we want."

So, it's possible that DICE would continue to build upon its successful Frostbite 2 tech for the sequel then? "There's nothing we know about now that the new consoles would do differently, rather do more," Bach added. "More processors. Bigger memory pools. Everything we have and more."

So, Battlefield will return for Battlefield 4, and CoD will also continue with its annual iterations, according to a quote from Activision CEO Bobby Kotick: “As we focus on 2012, we have a strong product pipeline which features a minimum of two highly-anticipated new titles from Blizzard Entertainment, including Diablo III, and a new Call of Duty game from Activision Publishing.”

It's likely that Treyarch will once again get its turn with the Call of Duty franchise and either whip up Black Ops 2 or something completely different. With the success of Black Ops under the developer's belt however, don't be surprised if the next Call of Duty game has 'Black Ops' in the title.

So, why are publishers spilling the beans on sequels early? To no doubt keep the investors happy and show that a long-term investment is something worthwhile. Either way, it means that you get to keep playing the games you love, and judging by how many of you have bought both Battlefield 3 and Modern Warfare 3, you'll be wanting to get your hands on the follow-ups, whenever they should materialise.

I can't wait to play a BF game on the next consoles... and COD has lost my interest.

The multiplayer in the new COD is just boring as hell after playing so many COD games. The campaign is tight tho.
