DCAN - One Passion

Alright everyone I haven't posted any new music in a while since my mixtape and a couple collabs. Cerebral Assassins is having a contest that required you to write a verse and shoot a video to one of their beats. I honestly think I have a chance to make it to the top four. If you have heard any of my mixtape, you should be able to see a pretty big improvement since then. Well that's what I've heard at least haha. thanks and yeah I need to get a better setup going. I usually go to a friends house for collabs or just recording in general. He has a pretty legit setup going on but he lives far away and I really wanted to try out my new camera equipment. Let me know what you think though.

It wasn't as bad as people are saying. Better than most youtube rappers I'll give you that.

A lot of your lyrics don't rhyme, you lack metaphors or punchlines and your flow is very basic.

get a better mic dude. i could sound better on an iphone.

I've been wanting to get a nice camera for the last 5 or 6 years now but the prices have always steered me away. He needed money quick so gave me a crazy deal. The dude with the studio set up has been trying to set up a studio for a the last few years and has been recording me little by little. He doesn't know much about hip hop but is trying to learn and he's getting better every time!

Thanks man! I'm starting to hate that term "youtube rapper" though. I've played about 7 shows so far and now I'm on my second batch of shirts. I know that doesn't have anything to do with much but that term sounds so whack haha

I thought most of the verse rhymed pretty well but I'm glad you have some constructive criticism. Now when you say rhyme do you mean the words need to be like this:

Yo I have a need
always begging me to feed

because a lot of rappers make words rhyme by using various flows. Like eminem will make two completely weird words somehow sound like they rhyme together. Here is an example of my lyrics from the verse:

Ayyo hear me out for just a second
and you can try to comprehend this message that I'm spreadin'

Second and spreading are words that are similar but don't actually rhyme but I tried to make it work.

Don't be ashamed, some of my favorite rappers are "youtube rappers" (Wax, streetlight ect..)

Alright well youtube rapper or not I just want honest feedback. Anyone can say some shit like "whack" or "gtfo" but at the end of the day that doesn't help one damn bit and honestly makes me question the intellect of the person firing shots.

You know, I get why it bothers you, but I wouldn't be saying shit like that just because they weren't helpful and that upset you. You are the one trying to get feedback, being a dick is what to you "doesn't help one damn bit".

As far as actual feedback goes, yes the mic is an issue but it isn't that bad at all. However, a lot of your rhymes felt either nonexistent, or you didn't focus on the syllables that do rhyme in the words and just glanced over it. I don't know, I hope that makes sense, I rarely critique music, basically the flow is just..off at times. Again, this wasn't bad, an actual mic would have helped it a ton.

I would definitely look into getting your own setup if money isn't terribly tight. You could probably get a nice usb interface and cheap condenser microphone for ~250 maybe less or more depending how hard you look. As Perfect Stranger said never release anything on a built in mic, just don't. I understand you had no choice if you wanted to enter this contest. But that's why I'm saying maybe look into getting your own little studio setup. Songs like this can turn away new people that aren't other artists in the competition checking out your channel. It's not that the song itself if bad, it's that it sounds bad. And that's all it takes. A clear example of this is the first few posts on this thread.
