Canibus, but GZA can also be more lyrical than canibus at times tbh.

If you go album for album, than there is essentially a clear winner in GZA, Canibus rarely has an album with no filler, whereas GZA can hold his own on albums.
Liquid Swords > Jack The Ripper
In terms of songs, like in singularity, Canibus has more punchlines, but GZA has more vivid rhymes.
To a degree, they would be both equal, but I enjoy GZA's music more.

I always felt let GZA was more hidden genius.
Canibus is good but, everyone knows that. He's always been a little corny to me. Seems like he wants everyone to know how good he is and that's what he's in it for. With all the puns and gimmick flows.
GZA on the other hand, he's purely art and writes for the elevated thinkers. He wants the listener to go a little deeper with his stuff. His solo stuff always makes me go back and try and find that in old Wu-Tang. Not to mention GZA's flow has and probably never will be duplicated cause he made his own style.

This is true. e.g. in the song I postedDGCK wrote:I always felt let GZA was more hidden genius.

"Now look who's on the witness stand singing, a well known soprano
A smash hit from Sammy Gravano
Here's the plan minimum for the hit, two hundred grand
Half time at the game blasting niggas out the stands
The sharp-shooters hit the prosecutor, judges are sent"
The stuff in bold highlights the extended metaphor alluding to a football game, not to mention the pun in the opening lines
"Restaurant's on a stake-out
So order the food to take out
Chaos outside of Sparks Steak House"
GZA's lyrics are packed with more literary techniques, but on the same token, A LOT of bis' lyrics fly over everyone's head. e.g.

You're being biased, though lol. I honestly don't care either way.
The notebook thing is just a shitty reason to pick GZA when you're talking about whole careers and not singular events.

Last night I actually put some Canibus on while I cleaned my house (that's when I can listen to music the clearest lol). He does have tons of lyrics that get lost in translation. I felt like my post under-credited him, since I haven't really listened to him in a year or so. I like both of the MC's a lot and they are actually more similar than I realized before this thread. I am more of a GZA fan though for other reasons outside of lyrics, like delivery method and persona, but this was a thread about lyrics lol. I would still say GZA is stronger in that field after listening to both Liquid Swords and Rip the Jacker in the same week.

Yea I completely agree. Personally I prefer Canibus as an emcee as I enjoy his subject matter more, but Liquid Swords is my #1 album so I think GZA is better.DGCK wrote:Jeet wrote:This is true. e.g. in the song I postedDGCK wrote:I always felt let GZA was more hidden genius.
