Macklemore

People who hate on Macklemore are the same ones who have only heard Thrift Shop. The dude is a fucking genius. Listen to his full album and actually listen to what he's talking about.

I think most people on the forums are fully aware of this, well to a certain extent. He most certainly is not a musical genius, but he is a very talented artist who deserves all the attention him and Ryan have gotten. To be honest most hate I've seen are just from people who really don't like his style, which I get, it's not for everyone. Either you can relate to his music and get used to his flow or you probably just will not be able to enjoy his music. However, if you can do those two things you will really really love his music.dcan wrote:People who hate on Macklemore are the same ones who have only heard Thrift Shop. The dude is a fucking genius. He just spits out liberal propaganda. As an emcee he is whack. Bad flow, weak voice, no delivery, no technicality. Ryan Lewis makes macklemore with out him no one gives a damn. #realniggatalkin

My least favorite rapper which I respect the most.
Hes a true underdog and keeps rising against the odds.

I respect him, but I personally don't like his music. He's an average rapper and he's horrible live. There are a lot better rappers out there who deserve the shine he's getting. But he's worked hard and he does deserve it.

Macklemore is an average rapper that I can't get into

He's a decent rapper but a great storyteller and, as of the last few years, decided to focus on REAL topics that most people don't touch on. Plus Ryan Lewis is easily one of the best producers out.
He's far from my favorite lyricists list but he's near the top of my current favorite artists list.

I fully back you on the Ryan Lewis part. He was nobody without him and producers deserve to get more credit than they normally do. I think it's fucking awesome that they aren't signed to any major labels and are on the level they are on. First duo in the last 20 years to be putting out hit singles on the radio without major label help and that is something to be proud of in hip hop. I feel like that is going to inspire many people to do the same and who knows, it might change the music industry.BitchNigga wrote:He just spits out liberal propaganda. As an emcee he is whack. Macklemore touches subjects that other rappers does not want to talk about. and he does it well. I dont like him but he's great at what he does.

I started listening to Macklemore just before I discovered Hopsin. I think I first heard Macklemore about 3 and a half years ago so way before he blew up and back then I used to think some of his music was a breath of fresh air, but at the same time not lyrically advanced at all. He raised up some good topics in his subject matter but isn't really thought provoking with his ideas.

Spend 20 minutes on tumblr or an hour watching MSNBC, then regurgitate the talking points into simple raps and you have the heist.

I agree, but aside from having a fuckload of filler, the Heist was pretty good.BitchNigga wrote:Spend 20 minutes on tumblr or an hour watching MSNBC, then regurgitate the talking points into simple raps and you have the heist.

The Heist is a poor album yet something you would not expect to go platinum, tbh before he blew up everyone probably thought he was going to stay underground his whole life because of his non-mainstream sound.

The reason people like Macklemore so much is because he is genuine. He isn't some wannabe or fake ass rapper. He talks about his life and the shit that bugs him. He has tons of positivity and that's something hip hop could use.

poor album? how? it had some of the best production in 2012. as well as more unique content than the majority of hip hop albums.King wrote:The Heist is a poor album yet something you would not expect to go platinum, tbh before he blew up everyone probably thought he was going to stay underground his whole life because of his non-mainstream sound.

I don't know him obviously, but I read an interview of him in Rolling Stone and he seems like the kind of person I wouldn't like.dcan wrote:The reason people like Macklemore so much is because he is genuine. Production and uniqueness does not disqualify an album from being poor, especially in this genre..Katz Inf Gang wrote:poor album? how? it had some of the best production in 2012. as well as more unique content than the majority of hip hop albums.King wrote:The Heist is a poor album yet something you would not expect to go platinum, tbh before he blew up everyone probably thought he was going to stay underground his whole life because of his non-mainstream sound.

"poor album" implies that it's low quality and doesn't capture the feeling that it attempted. Which it does. Not enjoying someone's delivery/lyrics doesn't make an album poorKing wrote:Production and uniqueness does not disqualify an album from being poor, especially in this genre..Katz Inf Gang wrote:poor album? how? it had some of the best production in 2012. as well as more unique content than the majority of hip hop albums.King wrote:The Heist is a poor album yet something you would not expect to go platinum, tbh before he blew up everyone probably thought he was going to stay underground his whole life because of his non-mainstream sound.
