iPhone 5 Pre-orders Start In China Empty iPhone 5 Pre-orders Start In China

Sat 14 Jul 2012 - 20:10
The first reports saying that several Chinese retailers are already taking pre-orders for the iPhone 5, a smartphone that will be unveiled by Apple in the fall, surfaced a few days ago.

The details about iPhone 5 pre-orders were shallow back then, but, in the meantime, Reuters journalists dug on the matter, and found out that Taobao is already taking pre-orders for iPhone 5. The China-based retailer is charging $160 for the unreleased iOS-powered smartphone, while another retailer, Dahai99888, is asking full-payment upfront, $1,100.

It seems that tens of eager customers already pre-ordered the device, so the opportunist retailers will have cashed-in thousands of dollars by the time iPhone 5 is officially made available for purchase in the fall.

As about the way the iPhone 5 will be shipped to China, the retailers are saying that the units are bought from USA or Hong Kong as soon as it debuts on the market, then brought to China, a market where the new Apple products are launched several months after the international debut.

Since the Chinese consumers will have to wait a lot longer until the iPhone 5 will hit the store shelves in their country, the opportunists are taking advantage from this situation, making it a profitable business for them. In US, Europe or other markets that are receive the new Apple products in the first wave, such “business ideas” are worthless, as no one will accept paying the fee upfront.

Rumor has it that the iPhone 5 will come with a slightly bigger display and reports have indicated that the size of the touch panel will be between 3.95 and 4.05 inches (diagonally). The leaked iPhone 5 cases have unveiled a revised body, keeping the design language of iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S. Reports show that the new Apple smartphone will be taller and slimmer than its predecessor, keeping the same width of iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S.

It looks like Apple have repositioned the 3.5 mm jack to the bottom of the device and that the iPhone 5 will have a brand new 19-pin dock connector.

As about the processor used for the iPhone 5, it was rumored that it will sport the new A6 SoC. But Apple’s product launches teach us something else, as the pattern indicates that the Cupertino-based company is usually using the iPad chipset for their new iPhones. The iPhone 4 came with the iPad’s A5 CPU, the iPhone 4S features iPad 2′s dual-core A5 processor, so the iPhone 5 might come with the A5X chipset used by Apple for the new iPad.
