Black Thought To Take Stand Againts Child Obesity

This Saturday (Feb. 18), Black Thought, of The Roots, will spearhead the “Let’s Move It Philly!” charity concert to bring awareness to childhood obesity in the African American community. The concert will kick off in Thought’s hometown of Philadelphia, as part of a 10-city initiative, according to AllHipHop.com. The concert is one of many projects initiated through the GrassROOTS Foundation.

The “Let’s Move It Philly!” charity concert will take place at the Sigma Sound Stage at 8 p.m. and will feature various artists including a performance by Black Thought himself along with fellow Roots bandmate, Questlove. The Carson Valley Children’s Aid will also be present to provide additional health services from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Philadelphia Mayor Michael A. Nutter and State representative Tony J. Payton Jr. will team up with Thought, alongside a host of others, to discuss the current state of health amongst African-American and Hispanic youth in the City of Brotherly Love. The event will offer free HIV testing as well as other health-oriented festivities throughout the day.

Tickets for the GrassROOTs Charity Concert can be purchased online. All proceeds from the concert will go to C.H.I.C.K.S. (Creating Healthy Informed Confident Knowledgeable Selves), an all-girls afterschool program at Harding Middle School in Philadelphia. —Chanel Clark
