Toddler Missing After Carjacking

DETROIT (WXYZ) - Detroit Police Chief Ralph Godbee issued a new statement on the investigation into Bianca Jones' disappearance Sunday. Bianca is the 2-year-old Detroit girl who went missing after a reported carjacking.



Godbee released this statement Sunday morning:

"The search for Bianca Jones is on going and continues to be of the highest priority relative to our commitment of dedicated resources to this case. The Detroit Police Department will not comment on the quantity nor the quality of any evidence or information we have gathered to date. However, in the interest of allaying some of the fears of the public regarding the apparent randomness of Bianca's disappearance, the authenticity and credibility of the original version of events is under intense scrutiny by our investigative team.
W e still need the public to relay any tips that could help in establishing the whereabouts of Bianca Jones to either 1-800-SPEAK-UP or to 313-596-2260, Bianca's safe return is priority one!"

An Amber Alert was issued on Friday.

As of Saturday afternoon, an anonymous donor had contributed a $15,000 reward for anyone with information leading to an arrest. Additionally, Crimestoppers is offering a $2,500 reward.

Police started searching the Detroit River Saturday, and they were also on foot searching an old industrial area South of the old GM Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Plant but found no signs of the toddler.

Officers spent much of Friday canvassing the neighborhood after the girl's father reported that he was carjacked at gunpoint with his toddler, Bianca, in the back seat.

He said the carjacking took place around 9:45 a.m. Friday. The vehicle that was involved was later located and investigators began searching for two suspects and the little girl.

The rest of Bianca's family wants to know what has happened to the girl.

“I don’t know nothing, I wish I did, I really don’t know anything,” said Uncle Olando Jones. My sister called me and woke me up and said, my niece has been kidnapped. I jumped over here and ran out of my bed. It’s like flooded with police. I’m completely helpless. There is nothing I can do,” said Jones.

The alleged carjacking happened near Custer and Brush Streets, just north of West Grand Boulevard, at approximately 9:45 a.m. Friday morning.

Bianca's father says she was in a car seat in the back of his grey Grand Marquis when he was carjacked by two men. He says they took off with his car and Bianca.

The vehicle was found less than a mile away near East Philadelphia and Beaubien. Police found the car still running with the driver's side door open, but Bianca wasn't inside.

“Someone jacked him for the car, was telling him something that the brake lights were out and he got out to check and he said that the guy just pulled a gun out on him. He didn’t know what to do, he froze,” said Aunt Mary Ford-Gandy.

Bianca Jones is a light-skinned black girl, weighing approximately 25 pounds. She was wearing a purple coat with gold trim. Her hair was braided and she was wearing pink tights with pink shoes.

“If you’ve seen her, she’s real tall, she doesn’t look like a 2-year-old, she kind of looks more like a 3 year old,” said Banika Jones, Bianca's mother.

Police released the following description of the suspects:

Suspect #1 - A black male, approx. 6', 190 lbs., wearing a black jacket with a red shirt underneath, dark pants and a brown and black hat, a thin scraggly beard, armed with a blue steel revolver.

Suspect #2 - Undescribed, except that he is said to have exited a small red, boxy-styled car.
