Poodunnit: Crooks leave behind messy clue

SWEDISH cops solved a real poodunnit by tracing two robbers via their excrement.

The crooks answered the call of nature outside a farm close to Vara, central Sweden, before breaking in and tying up the owner, The Local reported Wednesday.

They made off with 10,000 kronor ($1,500) in cash, tools and a car belonging to strawberry grower Elof Dahlen.

But while the pair made sure to torch the vehicle, they fouled up by forgetting to scoop up their poop.

Detectives soon stumbled across the excrement and were able to extract DNA from it, the Swedish news website said.

The two robbers and an accomplice were eventually traced back to February's raid and arrested. They were charged Tuesday with a variety of offenses.

Dahlen told the Nya Lidkopings-Tidningen newspaper police had done a "fantastic" job in cleaning up the crime.
