BASE jumper Christopher Brewer survives horror 275 metre plunge
Tue 18 Oct 2011 - 6:07
SHOCKING footage showing the moment a BASE jump went horribly wrong has been released.
Christopher Brewer, 27, narrowly avoided death when his parachute failed to open properly after leaping from a US bridge, the UK’s Daily Mail reported.
He fell 275 metres to the water below, impacting it at a speed of up to 129km/h.
It is thought the wing-suit he was wearing slowed his fall and saved his life.
However he has been left with a fractured pelvis, lung injuries and a spinal injury, Jeff West, chief ranger for New River Gorge National River, told the Register-Herald.
The terrifying fall happened during the annual Bridge Day celebration in Fayetteville, West Virginia, on October 15. More than 100,000 visitors attended the event.
There were several other mishaps that day, including another jumper who was seriously hurt when his jump went wrong.
Mr Brewer is in a stable condition in hospital.

Only allowed to jump on one day a year...
There is only one other bridge that allows you to do it in the US (they are year around)
