This is the Golden Age of Hip-Hop
Thu 27 Dec 2012 - 14:08
Regardless of what anybody thinks, (not that you're opinion even matters), right now is the Golden Age of Hip Hop.
You've got so many artists who are so skilled in their own ways.
Talib Kweli, Nas, Jay-Z, Curren$y, J-Cole, Kid Cudi, Ab Soul, Stann Smith, Joey Badass, Kendrick Lamar, Mos Def, Lupe Fiasco, Eminem, Tech N9ne, Immortal Technique, Obie Trice, Schoolboy Q, Jay Rock, Hopsin, Dizzy Wright, B.o.B, Jon Connor, Chris Webby, XV, 50 Cent coming back, etc...
You've got a game rich with emcee's from all over the world, not just the North, South, East and West, but the entire world bringing their own skills and vibe to the table. And then you've got lunatics who claim Hip Hop is dead. Get out of here, you don't deserve to breathe the same air as I do.

Plus theres a couple of talented women coming through too, rather than Kraeyshawn/Iggy Azalea who wouldn't even be known if they were born with a dick.

I can't take Stann Smith seriously because he's named after an American Dad character.

Even if there are plenty good rappers as of now, which I can't deny because there are some, it can't be the golden age because there's so many bullshit rappers on top of the charts.

1980-1995 was pretty much the golden age. We are nowhere near it right now.

i can agree. 94-98 was the last golden age. 99-2009 was just a mediocre period. had some great albums and artist but it was nothing like the 90s. now it seems like hip hop is making a comeback. you just cant listen to the radio anymore because all they play is corny shit. u got to go out and find the good hip hop

Its nearly impossible to have a "golden age" without excluding some of the best ever:
NWA 1987 - 1991
2pac 1990 - 1996
Eminem 1999-2004
Tech N9ne - 1999-
Hopsin 2009-
Kendrick Lamar 2011-
did a quick one and I didnt even mention Biggie, Nas, etc.
Every decade has good and bad artists tbh. The golden age is overrated. 90's and early 20's are overrated.

1986 - 2000
In that time you had some of the greatest albums, everything from Me Against The World to Enter The 36th Chambers to Marshall Mathers LP.
I honestly think this is the resurgence of real hip hop, with all the dope underground artist coming up at the moment.
Metaphorically, Hip Hop started losing its grip around 05', even though their were still dope artists, but all the swag fags were coming up, naw wut i meanz?

i would say we are in more of a progressive era of hip hop rather than the golden age

I'd honestly say that 03-09 was the golden age for underground, what with people like Eyedea & MF DOOM buzzing in the underground scene.

Right now we're just in a rap Renaissance more than a Golden Age.
