The N Word

Ok, this is a very touchy topic, but I felt that we should have a discussion about it (a serious mature one)
Now do not get me wrong, the use of the word will probably never go a way and I don't expect it to, I just wanted to talk about it. I also decided to bring this up because of the frequent use of the word on these forums by members who are not black themselves. I will admit that being a humungous hip hop head, I have used the word multiple times reciting my favorite songs and my favorite artists.I have also used it talking with my black friends, but It is always and awkward moment. I have decided to try my best to not use it anymore.Just wanted to have an intelligent conversation on the topic so what are your thoughts?

Where I live it seems to be different than everywhere else in the world including the internet.
I don't like to use the word outside of my personal life even though no one is restricting me from using it.

Basically what i think.

I went to a predominantly black school so only the ghetto whitebread were allowed to say it without getting the beat.

Most of my friends are black, I never used it but they're not stupid enough to think I'm racist so even if I did it wouldn't mean anything. It's not in my vocabulary anyway. The only time I use it is in a joke or troll type of way as well as with my jamajkan broski (lived there for 15 years).

It's just a word. Anyone who gets offended by it is a women on the insides.

I would never use it as an insult, I would never say it to a black persons face. I would occasionally say it in a light hearted way to someone but I would never mean it and wouldn't take things far when using that word.

It doesn't bother me, but i am a white dude so.

I've got a black mate called Alex who's in the army, i've said it to him in an overly-obvious jokey way and he just laughs.

I also call him Blacktion Man, and it just makes him laugh.

I use it in context as much as possible, so I rarely say it, unless I'm quoting something or joking around I don't usually use it, to be honest.
One of my closet friends is Maori, (black in other words), and he doesn't mind if I use it, but I generally refrain from it, because I'm cool with him, but this guys really big as well, and another kid called him a "nigga", and he body slammed him, then rammed his head in a fence, so I would never use it as an insult, because I'd probably end up on my arse.

I don't see why black people get so offended though, people call me, "cracker", and "honky" all the time, most of the time as a joke, and I don't give a fuck, but if I referred to someone as it, they'd be like, "oh dis mafucka racist, Imah have tah kill his ass".
