Sony Closes 2 Studios Empty Sony Closes 2 Studios

Wed 11 Jan 2012 - 6:31
[Update]

Sony has responded with an official statement, saying BigBig "has been an important part of SCE Worldwide Studios" since it joined the group in 2007.

"However, it was felt that by focusing on other Studios that are currently working on exciting new projects, we would be in a stronger position to offer the best possible content for our consumers."

"We have reviewed and assessed all current projects and plans for the short and medium term and have decided to make some changes to European studios. As a result of this, there will be a realignment of resource within the studio to ensure that the studio is in the best position to achieve this."

[Original Story]

Sony is planning a major restructure of its internal studios with studio closures and job loses.

The publishing giant has a number of outfits across Britain, but it looks like some face the axe, Sony has confirmed to Develop.

BigBig, the developers of Vita launch minigame collection LittleDeviants, will be closed and Sony Cambridge will be "restructured." It's believed that Cambridge will likely partner with Guerrilla Games to develop Killzone games on Vita. Job loses are expected.

Apparently, the move will not affect the other UK-based first-party studios; Media Molecule, Evolution, Sony Liverpool and Sony London.

The news comes following a PS3T feature lauding the current state of UK development and in particular the UK first-party studios behind the Vita's launch window line-up. Sad news.
