70 Year Old Man Killed In McDonalds Parking Lot

FAIRFIELD, Calif. -- A 70-year-old man attempting to help a stranded motorist in a fast-food parking lot was killed after that motorist ran over him with his vehicle and sped off, a witness told KCRA 3.

"He was just trying to jump the guy's camper battery," said Luis Tejada, who witnessed the incident.

Late Thursday morning, Tejada said a regular, lottery-ticket buying customer at his gas station offered to help a homeless man whose camper truck was stalled in the parking lot of a neighboring McDonald's near the Cordelia exit off Interstate 80.

Fairfield police confirm that for some reason the man's truck lurched forward and ran over Rudy Gonzales.

Police also confirmed that the driver drove away and was detained a short distance away.

"He should have stopped. He should have done the right thing and stopped, if it was an accident," said Tejada.

Gonzales' family told KCRA 3 that the victim was a hard-working father of two, who was working at a second-job as a courier in the Cordelia area in order to support his family.

"He was real good guy. He didn't deserve this," said Tejada.

Investigators told KCRA 3 they still have not been able to determine if this was an intentional act or a tragic accident.

I have a feeling my dad has done a hit and run before... he drives drunk all the time and I've been in the car with him before when he did some psycho shit.

Yeah my dad tried to run over a black guy up in Oregon when I was a kid just cause he was black....glad we missed him.

My dad used to be a big crack head...sober since 03 tho
